Beyoncé, Jay-Z continue to show their form by spending 190 M dollars to buy the most expensive house in California
Jay-Z sold his controlling stake in D’ussé Cognac to Bacardi for $750 M this year. Thus, the affluent businessman and Beyoncé’s luxury Malibu vacation property may make sense. According to TMZ, the famous couple spent $200 M on a supervillain-worthy Brutalist house overlooking Paradise Cove.
The PᴜгcҺɑꜱе price was second-highest for a U.S. property and most for a California residence, topping a $177 M Malibu estate next door. The privately marketed $295 M house gave the Carters a great deal.
In the late 1990s, Bill and Maria Bell—he the son of soap opera tycoons who created “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful”—commissioned the mansion, which took 15 years to complete. The huge 2014 fortress showcased the Bells’ large modern art collection, including works by Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and Marcel Duchamp.
The property was never advertised. Aerial views show acres of grass. Ando’s signature is two gigantic outdoor pools—one for swimming and one for reflection.
Concrete dominates the site. Pacific Pervious Concrete polished 22,500 square feet of pervious concrete for the estate’s driveway and motorcourts. Morley Concrete, another contractor, supplied 7,645 cubic yards of concrete for the house. The building’s bedrooms and bathrooms are all basic.
Kanye West paid $57 M for a smaller Tadao Ando-designed Malibu house two years ago.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z possess a New York City penthouse, a Hamptons residence, and a large Malibu acreage. Their $88 M Bel Air home remains.
