The Hollywood Hills residence that was once owned by Madonna is hitting the markеt for $21 мillion. This Spanish-style home, spanning approximately 10,500 square feet, offers picturesque views of the iconic Hollywood sign.
Known as Castillo del Lago, the 1920s-era property is perched on a ridge beneath the renowned Hollywood sign. Madonna reportedly acquired the home for around $5 million in 1993 and sold it in 1996, as detailed in a memoir by her brother, Christopher Ciccone. The current owner, according to records, is fashion designer Leon Max of Max Studio.
Renowned architect John DeLario designed the Spanish-style villa, recognized as one of the earliest houses built in Hollywoodland, a real-estate development from the 1920s, as noted in the 2007 book ‘Houses of Los Angeles.’
The house gained local prominence and served as a filming location for scenes in the 1984 movie ‘Beverly Hills Cop,’ according to IMDb.
Madonna sold the property to commercial director Joe Pytka, who later sold it to Mr. Max for $7 million.
Mr. Max undertook restoration efforts, returning the turrets and retaining walls to their original weathered-white appearance.
He also created a breezeway to restore a minstrel’s gallery overhanging the main inner courtyard. Additionally, he replanted hanging gardens with vines such as fig ivy, wisteria, and jasmine.
The nine-bedroom residence, spanning around 10,500 square feet, offers views of Lake Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles.
It features a pair of towers, with one serving as the entrance showcasing a stunning spiral staircase and an antique elevator with wooden paneling.
The primary suite, located in a second tower, includes lounge furniture.
