In anticipation of the upcoming Grammy Awards in March, the song “Deep Reverance” by Big Sean and Nipsey Hussle has been nominated for Best Rap Performance. On March 5, Sean shared a photo of his collaboration with the late Crenshaw rapper.
The nominee for the 2020 HipHopDX Comeback of the Year traveled across Los Angeles, paying homage to Nipsey by visiting various paintings, murals, and basketball courts. Seeking guidance, he connected with West Coast legend Snoop Dogg, who was cruising around town in a sapphire blue lowrider.
The video, created as a tribute to Nipsey Hussle’s impactful life, features special appearances by artists who collaborated with him, including Dom Kennedy and “Hiт-Boy.” The bittersweet video was released more than six months after its initial launch in August 2020, following Nipsey’s tragic shooting outside his Marathon Clothing store in March 2019.
Expressing his gratitude to Nipsey Hussle, Sean said, “To one of the truest, most grounded people ever, @nipseyhussle! Thank you, my friend! You always bless us all! It’s deeper than 4Life, it’s 4ever.”
A potential Grammy win would mark Nipsey Hussle’s third overall, following multiple posthumous awards in 2020. Meanwhile, Big Sean, despite five nominations in the past four years, is still pursuing his first gold trophy.
“Deep Reverence” faces competition from tracks like “The Bigger Picture” by Lil Baby, “Sɑvɑge” by Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé, “Dior” by Pop Smoke, “WHAT POPPIN” by Jack Harlow, and “Bop” by DaBaby.
