While playing for the Boston Red Sox, outfielder Johnny Damon was famous for his shoulder-length hair and shaggy beard. So it’s perhaps not surprising that the Florida home he custom-built for his family has a hair salon.
The retired outfielder, 50, and his wife, Michelle Damon, 48, built the nine-bedroom lakefront home in the Orlando suburbs in 2010. Now they’re putting it on the market for $30 million.
The roughly 30,000-square-foot home is located in a gated community in the town of Windermere, about 10 miles west of downtown Orlando, said listing agent Alice Anne Jackson of Corcoran Premier Realty. The roughly 4.8-acre lot has about 540 feet of waterfront and a dock on Lake Butler, said Jackson.
The home’s amenities include a two-lane bowling alley, sports bar, lounge and arcade. To help him stay fit in the offseason, the home has two gyms, including one off the primary suite, as well as a sauna and steam room. There are also multiple outdoor sports courts for tennis, basketball and volleyball.
The property has a saltwater pool with a swim-up Hibachi grill and bar, plus a grotto and a slide, said Jackson. There is also a zip line and a vegetable garden, where the Damons grow almost all of their produce, said Michelle.
Michelle often invites friends to get pampered in the hair salon, but Johnny and their son Dash also use it. Johnny cut his fan-favorite hair short in 2005 when he signed with the New York Yankees, but has since grown it out to compete with Dash, 7, who also has long hair.
The home’s primary suite has a coffee station, indoor and outdoor showers and a two-story closet, said Jackson. For the Damons’ six children, ages 7 to 16, the house has a playroom, a separate kids’ dining area and an outdoor playhouse. The family is musical as well as athletic, Johnny said, so they have two karaoke areas and a music loft for storing drums and collectible guitars. The house has two kitchens, and Michelle said she hosts annual Naughty Cookie parties for her girlfriends, where they bake cookies. The house has three guest apartments, one of which currently houses Johnny’s mother.
