We are accustomed to seeing aircraft carriers in combat readiness, with fierce fighter aeroplanes poised on the deck. What if we were to see a completely distinct image instead? Not merely a tranquil-appearing one that invites passengers to total relaxation and pure indulgence, but even more daring.

Not only would the Noah Twins Carrier be the world’s first aircraft carrier converted into a yacht, but it would also be constructed with interchangeable decks, straight out of a science fiction movie. According to the Studio, the design would be comparable to a Swiss Army weapon, with the ability to switch between a landing strip and a golf course. Yes, there would still be a landing strip, but for helicopters and air taxis rather than fighter aircraft. Because why not, the nine-hole golf course could also be converted into a ski slope using artificial snow.

The ambitious undertaking is not new, but its realisation has recently moved closer. Zenger reports that Udo Stern, a German entrepreneur who is also part of a project called Düsseldorf Initiative, is working on getting investors in the project to join forces and purchase a former aircraft carrier that could bring the Noah Twins concept to reality.

This venerable aircraft carrier, named Foch, served the French Navy from 1963 to 2000. This warship, the second in the Clemenceau class, has an impressive length of 543 feet (165.5 metres) and a width of 97 feet (29.5 metres), making it ideal for this massive innovative undertaking. After 2000, Brazil purchased it and renamed it Sao Paolo; it was decommissioned nearly a decade later. It appears to have been recently acquired by a Turkish company and is in danger of being demolished.

Will Foch be able to be saved and begin a second existence as an opulent yacht? It is still undetermined. However, the concept of repurposing warships and giving them an entirely new career should undoubtedly gain traction.
