Exclusive Oceanfront Oasis: Marcy Carsey’s Lavish $40 Million Malibu Home Acquisition
Marcy Carsey still has syndication money despite owning at least 11 multimillion-dollar homes in Southern California, including three in Malibu. The real estate enthusiast and retired TV super-producer (“That ’70s Show,” “Roseanne,” “The Cosby Show,” “3rd Rock From the Sun”) paid $37.5 million for an oceanfront Malibu home.
Dean Factor, great-grandson of makeup pioneer Max Factor, sold the expensive off-market transfer, according to The Real Deal. Factor and his wife Shannon bought the 1930s house for $15.3 million in 2010. Before Carsey called, the couple listed the property for $40 million.
The walled and gated property, once owned by Oscar-winning “Rocky” franchise producer Robert Chartoff, has a three-bedroom main house and a three-bedroom guesthouse, both charmingly traditional and linked by lush landscaping with tree-shaded lawns, manicured boxwood hedges, and a swimming pool surrounded by a red-brick patio.
The two-story guesthouse near the road has an attached two-car garage, while the main house is further back on the lot and juts out toward the ocean. The main house has a Viking-equipped eat-in kitchen, an upstairs master retreat with a sitting room and balcony, an outdoor kitchen/BBQ center, and a raised wooden deck. Two kitchenettes—one on each floor—and direct access to a secondary outdoor BBQ center are in the guesthouse. Both buildings have simple white walls and several brick fireplaces.
The house and grounds are nice, but its location makes it worth nearly $40 million. The long, narrow estate sits on one of Malibu’s most desirable beaches from a main road. Tom Gores, Alec Gores, Donald Sterling, Juliana Terian, and Sting are Carsey’s new neighbors.
Carsey, who manages a $200 million personal property portfolio, is used to having famous neighbors. The 78-year-old Massachusetts native also owns a Broad Beach oceanfront home, a two-house Montecito estate, a Malibu ranch house, a Brentwood Park mansion, and several smaller family homes. Her most impressive home is a $100 million Encinal Bluffs compound next door to Kim Kardashian.
