Check out Michael Jordan’s 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 Lorinser

You may never be able to hoop like Michael Jordan, but you’ll soon be able to ride like he did during his playing days.

Later this week, the 1996 Mercedes-Benz S600 Lorinser that His Airness drove during the height of his NBA tenure will be put up for auction. However, the coupe’s erstwhile owner is not the only noteworthy aspect of this sale: The price being asked is only $23.

At this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention, which runs from July 26th to July 30th, livestream purchasing platform Whatnot will sell the automobile. On the first day of the event, anyone interested in purchasing the vehicle can enter its Whatnot Drop through the company’s smartphone app. According to the press release, a winner will be selected who can then conclude the transaction for the cost of $23. Fans may participate the drop from any location, but those in attendance will also have the opportunity to view the vehicle in person.

Whoever’s name is named will receive a substantial value for $23. Jordan’s Mercedes is a W140 S-Klasse coupe, which he and his ex-wife Juanita purchased in 1995 and kept until 2003. The vehicle, which appeared in episode seven of The Last Dance, is dark blue metallic and features custom exterior work by Lorinser, such as a wide-body kit and chrome monobloc wheels. Inside the vehicle is a car phone that, when activated, depicts Jordan’s name across the dashboard. Under the bonnet of the vehicle is a V-12 engine with a displacement of 6.0 litres.

You may question why WhatNot is selling Jordan’s Mercedes at such a low price. The car is one of several valuable items of sports memorabilia that the service is selling at this year’s convention for $23 (it doesn’t hurt that 23 is the NBA Hall of Famer’s most famous jersey number). The coupe’s previous proprietors also struggled to part with it. Autoevolution reported this spring that the Beverly Hill Car Club had devoted the majority of the last three years attempting to sell the automobile.
