Recently, Rodriguez Design Studio attempted to design “the perfect charter superyacht.”
Tuesday, the Spanish design firm unveiled a new concept that aims to connect seafarers with their oceanic surroundings in a genuinely luxurious manner. Catalina is a 277-foot vessel with a streamlined steel hull, a lightweight aluminum superstructure, and a minimalist exterior.
“The styling of the yacht represents the studio’s design direction for 2023: simple yet elegant,” said studio founder Josh Rodriguez in a statement.
Catalina’s five expansive decks are outfitted with furnishings and amenities to encourage outdoor living. Additionally, the ship is fitted with floor-to-ceiling glass windows and glass bulwarks to help bring the outside in.
The beach terrace is nearly 1,100 square feet in size and is centered on a large pool with a counter-flow system for fitness enthusiasts. The deck is also equipped with fold-out platforms that, at the stroke of a button, provide an additional 141 square feet of space and steps that provide direct access to the water.
Two side staircases lead to the mezzanine veranda, which features a large Jacuzzi with a glass front and two sun loungers. On the main deck, accessible via the same staircases, are two L-shaped sofas and a coffee table. Two gullwing doors provide access to a garage with capacity for four tenders and four Jet Skis.
There are a main salon, dining area, galley, two VIP accommodations, and the owner’s suite on the interior of the main deck. On the lower deck are three additional double cabins, a spa, a sauna, a gym, a massage room, a hairdressing salon, and the staff quarters. Catalina can accommodate 14 passengers and 22 crew members.
The upper balcony is divided into two separate sections. A four-person sun pad, a six-person U-shaped settee, and two wet bars are located aft, while a helipad and a 14-seat circular lounge are located forward. Inside, you’ll find a second expansive salon with glass panels that create a “fishbowl effect” (read: an abundance of natural light and spectacular views).
On the bridge deck’s exterior are a dining table, a Teppanyaki grill, and a wet bar, while on the interior are the captain’s quarters. From here, you can access the sky deck, which features a lounge and an additional outdoor Jacuzzi.
Catalina’s hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system promises a range of 6,500 nautical miles at a speed of 12 knots. She sounds like the ideal superyacht for charter.
