Unveiling Scala: Focus Yacht Design’s Spectacular 60m Ocean Villa Superyacht Concept

The German design firm Focus Yacht Design has unveiled a new 60-meter concept named Scala. The vessel is intended to be a “ocean villa superyacht” with an exterior design that combines maritime and land architecture elements.

Scala’s vessel design, which is based on a SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin vessel) platform, reduces motion sickness, increases seaworthiness, and provides greater stability on the water.

With its distinctive geometric profile and 24-metre beam, the design also allows for a surprisingly spacious living area. There are six-metre-tall chambers, with each area having a minimum height of three metres – a feature “typically only possible in land architecture,” per Focus Yacht Design. Additionally, exterior renderings disclose floor-to-ceiling windows and expansive walkaround decks, which contribute to the superyacht’s imposing sense of space.

The superyacht’s submerged tubes enabled the creation of a forward-facing panoramic lounge and an entirely underwater glazed lounge. Scala’s atrium and entrance, measuring 6.5 metres in height, “creates a grand sense of arrival” for those entering the building.

On deck, a 400-square-meter sundeck with a pool and certified helipad functions as the primary social area.

Thomas Mühe, CEO of Focus Yacht Design, remarked, “As Scala sails along the world’s most beautiful coastlines, it offers its residents an unparalleled sense of freedom.” “For those in search of a home that transcends traditional boundaries, Scala is the epitome of limitless living — a sanctuary that can call any part of the world home.”
