Why are purchasers continuing to pay even more for Madonna’s former Los Angeles house despite the high asking price?

Madonna is known as “the Queen of Pop,” but there is more to her than her chart-topping hits. Beyond her brilliant music career, which has given her a fortune—her net worth is estimated at US$850 mιllιon as of 2020—the Hollywood icon has an outstanding real estate portfolio.

Her former Castillo Del Lago house in Hollywood Hills, which she owned from 1993 to 1996, is listed for US$21 mιllιon. In her brother Christopher Ciccone’s memoir, Madonna acquired the property for $5 mιllιon.

John DeLario designed the 1926 Spanish colonial mansion. The private 10,513 sq ft estate on Mulholland Highway, with its 130,680 sq ft plot and 360-degree views of Lake Hollywood, the Hollywood sign, and downtown Los Angeles, is one of the most significant Spanish estates ever built in southern California.

Pop culture has featured the nine-bedroom home since its construction. The Castillo del Lago mansion has been home to many famous people, including fashion designer Leon Max of Max Studio. It was featured in Beverly Hills Cop (1984) and has undergone various restorations.

“I had known about Castillo del Lago for many years as it is a beautiful landmark property… “Positioned on a hill, the house takes advantage of the iconic views of all Los Angeles landmarks and yet it feels like one is somewhere in Southern Europe,” says fashion designer Leon Max.

The great house was renovated by Lorenzo Mongiardino, a late Italian interior designer. This contains a majestic entrance lobby with Spanish-style architectural embellishments and a spiral staircase that connects the house’s levels.

A two-story living area with intricate stenciled wood beam ceilings, a beautiful fireplace, period-style artwork, and rows of French doors opening to the terrace and lakeside views is perfect for entertaining. The house has a living room, formal dining room, breakfast room, and center courtyard with palms, a fountain, and an outdoor fireplace.

The large property has a lap pool, fountains, expansive lawns, a motor court, two-car garage, and a magnificent rose garden with sculpted hedges, citrus, and mature specimen trees. Homeowners can enjoy the entertainment area, home office, refrigerated wine room, kitchen, and gym.

Nine lovely bedrooms with ensuite baths distinguish the landmark mansion. The romantic and timeless major wing of the tower has the master bedroom, mediative sitting areas, sumptuous tiled double baths, and lounge chairs where residents may enjoy the breathtaking views from a bird’s eye view.
