Musk’s Hyperdrive: The Supercar Saga by Elon Musk

1. BMW 320i 1978

Elon Musk once had the idea of purchasing an affordable car, the BMW 320i, back when BMW did not have the high status it enjoys today. Unfortunately, the first car owned by Musk had a sad ending when it was accidentally damaged by an intern in Musk’s first company.

2. McLaren F1 1997

A CNN film crew captured the moment when Elon Musk owned a McLaren F1. After a series of major successes in Silicon Valley, the young entrepreneur Elon Musk wɑnтed to reward himself with a McLaren F1. The McLaren F1 at that time had a price tag of $815,000 and was known as the “million-dollar supercar.” The McLaren F1 was Elon Musk’s first supercar.

Unfortunately, the F1 was involved in an ɑϲϲident, and in 2007, Musk sold it. McLaren only produced 106 units of the F1. Musk’s F1 had the serial number 067 and was among the 7 cars imported to the United States at that time.

3.Lotus Esprit “Wet Nellie” 1976

Elon Musk admitted to being an avid James Bond fan after spending nearly one million UꜱD in 2013 to own the modified Lotus Esprit S1, known as the Wet Nellie, which was the underwater car featured in the James Bond film “The Spy Who Loved Me” (1977).

In true classic James Bond style, the car, originally a Lotus Esprit, could transform into a submarine with the push of a button.

4. Audi Q7 2010

Elon Musk once owned an Audi Q7, one of the most luxurious SUVs suitable for Musk’s large family.

However, Musk was not impressed with the luxury of the Audi at that time, describing the car as “pretty unimpressive.” Taking note of the issues with the Q7, Elon Musk went on to design his own electric SUV.

5. BMW M5 2006

The BMW M5 is a powerful car known for its performance, and the prowess of this “beast” has inspired Elon Musk to implement the “Ludicrous Mode” in the Tesla Model S.

6. Ford Model T 1920

The Ford Model T is one of the most influential cars of the 20th century. The Model T played a significant role in making mass-produced cars accessible to the public, and every automobile manufacturer owes a debt of gratitude to Henry Ford for that achievement.

Elon Musk has followed a similar naming format for his vehicles, reminiscent of the Model T, with the word ‘Model’ followed by a letter or alphanumeric designation on the nameplate.

7. E-Type Jaguar Roadster 1967

Many teenagers today dream of owning a Tesla, but the CEO of Tesla, when he was a teenager, had a dream of owning one of the best classic sports cars, the Jaguar E-type. However, it left him disappointed.
