As construction nears completion, Turkish shipyard Mazu Yachts has provided a look inside the first 28.5-meter steel Mazu 92 DS model from its Mazu 92 DS series.
The model marks Mazu’s first foray into steel construction and is the first of a new series of semi-displacement vessels that will shortly be joined by the 112 DS and 132 DS models.
Red Yacht Design was commissioned to design the exterior and interior of the new model, which has a beam of 6.8 metres and a draught of 1.9 metres. Its superstructure is composed of carbon composite to reduce weight and maintain a low centre of gravity.
The exterior design incorporates an elevated pilothouse, a vertical bow, and a two-tone hull. A full-beam owner’s suite located in the widebody section of the main deck forward, two single cabins forward, and a full-beam VIP provide sleeping quarters for a total of eight visitors.
In terms of amenities, the Mazu 92 DS features a substantial swim platform that can accommodate a tender or Jet Ski while en route. This platform can be extended when moored or at anchor due to fold-down bulwarks. Glass sliding transom doors provide access to a beach club with a bar.
A backlit exterior staircase connects the main deck, upper deck, and beach club, and there is an asymmetric lounge with an L-shaped settee to port and armchairs to starboard. The interior features a neutral colour scheme, light wood parquet flooring, and occasional blue accents.
Regarding the new model, Mazu’s founder and designer Halit Yukay remarked, “I believe we’ve created something extraordinary that will disrupt the market. The interior volumes and full-height windows create the illusion of being on a yacht at least 10 metres longer.”
“The most exciting feature of the DS series is the use of three IPS 1050 Volvo machines in a displacement steel body and the exciting innovations created for the layout,” Yukay explained. The anticipated maximum speed of the model is 22 knots.
Mazu has begun construction on a second 92 DS on spec and has announced that designs for the first 112 DS are in the works, demonstrating its capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Meanwhile, designs for the new 112DS will be finalised this summer, and the model is slated for release this year.
