Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton will undoubtedly have a Mercedes-AMG One in his garage in the near future, but for now he’s just giving us a sneak peek at the impending supercar. Honestly, I’ll take any look I can get because this automobile is insane.
It’s a brief video, but there’s some beautiful footage of the cockpit, replete with an F1-style steering wheel, and Hamilton gives his best brand ambassador speech about the car’s comforts. Certainly, the AMG One will be considerably more comfortable than a genuine F1 car, but I’d predict that it won’t be a joy to drive for long distances. That is in no sense a criticism of the One.
The AMG One is a remarkable undertaking for the German automaker, but it also introduces the E Performance division. In December, Hamilton introduced the division and announced that the One will serve as the halo vehicle for the subsidiary. Honestly, this is a hell of a way to do it. The One is equipped with a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 from the Mercedes-AMG F1 race vehicle and should produce at least one thousand horsepower. It is a celebratory vehicle for the brand’s triumph in F1, and 275 individuals are invited to join the company in its celebration.
However, the vehicle is sold out. Even if a spot becomes available, $2.72 million is required to participate. Consequently, not inexpensive. Instead, I’ll have to wait for Hamilton to take it for a spin because I don’t have millions tucked away in the settee cushions.
