Former MLB star Gary Matthews Jr. puts his home in Newport Beach up for sale

SoCal real estate buyer Gary Matthews Jr. seeks to close. According to Orange County Register, Coldwell Banker Realty’s Tim Smith and Casey Lesher are selling the former Los Angeles Angels outfielder’s ϲ.о.υ.ι.Ԁ-19 del Mar property for little under $22 million.

Matthews bought an empty lot on the beach side of Coast Highway in 2010 for $3 million and recruited architect Carlton Graham, Steve Davidson Construction, and Tom Waters to create a contemporary two-story house. Four bedrooms, seven bathrooms, limestone floors, and white oak ceilings are in the 6,200-square-foot 2014 stone-clad mansion.

On a one-third-acre blufftop, the two-story Irvine Terrace house has an attached three-car garage and a gated courtyard with a fire pit. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls on the main level open to a spacious heated balcony with a built-in BBQ and views of the Pacific, Newport Harbor, Balboa, and Catalina islands.

Gary Matthews Sr.’s son is 48-year-old Matthews. From 1999 through 2010, the younger Matthews played professional baseball with the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles, Texas Rangers, and L.A. Angels of Anaheim.
