There Are Specifically Nine Explorer Yachts Designed to Visit the World’s Remotest Places

The record number of explorer-style boats built last year shows that a new breed of superyacht buyers is no longer happy to fight for moorings in the Med or Caribbean. They seek adventure.

The 223-foot Ragnar and 250-foot Yersin are typical expedition boats. Due to utilitarian hull designs and increased fuel capacity, this new breed of petite superyachts, many below 150 feet, can perform identical tasks in smaller containers.

One in this group is self-sufficient for 30 days while exploring isolated areas. Another can escape storms at 25 knots. Several feature helicopter-landing decks.

Damen, Sanlorenzo, and Cantiere delle Marche, together with Turkish yards Bering and AvA, construct competent, adventure-ready yachts with exquisite interiors.

Top nine. Most are new, but we selected many recent debuts and one a decade-old classic to highlight how far this industry has come.
