Celebrated rapper, music producer, Beats founder, and billionaire, Dr. Dre, is parting ways with his long-standing Malibu beachfront residence, a property he has owned for over two decades. The 57-year-old Compton native has publicly listed the Malibu estate, formerly shared with his ex-wife Nicole Young, for an asking price of $20M.
Despite the possibility of selling for less than the original purchase price in 2000 ($4.8M), Dr. Dre is poised to make a substantial profit given the surge in Malibu home values over the past 22 years. Nestled on a nearly 7,000-square-foot plot on Carbon Beach, one of the city’s most exclusive areas, the three-story mansion is positioned uniquely.
Described as a “contemporary beach estate,” the luxurious house, built in the early 1990s, features floor-to-ceiling glass walls, offering ample natural light and breathtaking river views from every room. The entrance leads to a welcoming lobby, guiding visitors to an expansive great room designed for entertaining.
The room boasts a remarkable stone fireplace, sliding glass doors opening to a balcony with beach views, secured by gates, a courtyard-style entrance, and a sophisticated security system.
Additional open-concept living areas include a recording studio, a spacious gym, an executive office, a primary bedroom with a sauna, fireplace, sitting area, private balcony, and a primary closet, along with five guest bedrooms. Spanning around 9,000 square feet, this residence stands out among the larger properties on Carbon Beach.
This isn’t Dr. Dre’s first attempt to sell the Malibu vacation home, which was once shared with Nicole Young during their marriage. A decade ago, the Pacific Coast Highway property was briefly listed for sale with an asking price ranging from $11M to $12.5M.
After his formal divorce from Young in December, during which she reportedly received a $100M lump sum, Dr. Dre retained ownership of all their properties, including the $40M Brentwood estate from Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, the $40M Malibu mansion, and two Calabasas mansions. Dr. Dre’s current net worth is estimated at $400M, according to Forbes.
