Madonna’s Former Hollywood Hills Estate ‘Castillo del Lago’ Hits the Market for $21 Million: A Spanish-Style Gem with Hollywood History

A Spanish-style Hollywood Hills estate once owned by Madonna is on the market for $21 million. Known as Castillo del Lago, the circa-1920s house is perched on a ridge below the famed Hollywood sign. The 10,500-square-foot house features a lavish mix of custom wrought iron, vibrant period tile, hand-painted details, grand fireplaces, exposed wood beams and Spanish archways. The house was once used to film scenes for the 1984 Beverly Hills Cop.

Architectural highlights include 25′ stenciled wood beams in the two-story living room, where rows of French doors open to a terrace with an expansive view of Lake Hollywood. The formal dining room pairs an intricate honeycomb ceiling with terracotta floors.

The principal bedroom has many areas to work and unwind. Moorish arched doorways and columns are among the standout architectural features.

A loggia opens to a central courtyard accessed through a set of French doors with screens.

The central courtyard has a brightly tiled quatrefoil fountain and outdoor fireplace. The current owner opened a breezeway and planted climbing plants like fig ivy, wisteria and jasmine to adorn the walls.
