Jason Statham may portray the tough man in most of his films, but when it comes to his house, he makes sure it’s a relaxing environment.
“Everything in the UK is just these tiny rooms with a fireplace.” “Every house looks the same—they’re all red brick—and they’re very different to California midcentury architecture,” the 52-year-old British actor said in a recent profile of one of his Los Angeles residences.
“So, when you get the floor-to-ceiling glass and it connects the indoors with the outdoors, it’s almost like this free-flowing connection,” he went on to say. “There’s just something very Zen-like, and it gives you a certain sense of relaxation”.
While many would expect celebs like Statham to avoid more exposed residences due to their public lives, the Fast & Furious star claims they are his favorite type.
“Put me in a glass box, and I’ll be very happy”, he told the publication. “There’s just something appealing about the symmetry and openness of things.”
The Expendables star displayed off the newly refurbished home, which features cedar wood ceilings and large windows, and boasted that he has a talent for identifying homes that he can gut and transform into his own.
“I’m always looking for places to either renovate or buy, to move up the ladder,” Statham told the outlet. “This one came out of nowhere and had a certain charm.” It was depressed and neglected, as were most of the mid-century cities.”
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home oozes modern, minimalist elegance, and the actor admits that the restoration was not cheap. “I never had a set budget. As a result, all of the finishes were prohibitively expensive—it became quite an extravagant year”, Statham explained. “It would have been easier to build a new house”.
However, in renovating it, we were guided by elements of its original charm, such as the butterfly ceiling and the drop-down that allows you to run the cedar ceiling up from within the house out to the overhangs. These are things I don’t believe we would have done if we had drawn it on paper”.The house also has a gym that would “put Equinox to shame”, according to the publication, with a unique ceiling that can handle his heavy bags, gymnastic rings, and other gym equipment.
It also leads to an outdoor area with a sauna and a Hoshizaki ice maker with a stainless-steel immersion tub for ice baths, which Statham installed. “People don’t like to think about getting into a tub of ice,” he said. “However, the advantages are enormous. It’s a common method of training these days.”Statham’s primary abode — which he shares with Rosie Huntington Whitely, 32, and their son, Jack, 2 — serves as a guest house for all of his U.K.-based friends and family, who tend to arrive “en masse” to spend time with him. He recently listed the house for lease to move on to his next project.
