Kendall Jenner’s design team, comprised of mother-and-son combo Kathleen and Tommy Clements, as well as the incomparable Waldo Fernandez, had no idea what to anticipate from their 24-year-old celebrity client. “Her tastes were unexpected, more bohemian and funky than the rest of her family”. “The mood she described was understated and down-to-earth”, Tommy says of the team’s initial encounters with Jenner, the world’s highest-paid model. “With Kendall being who she is, we expected her to gravitate toward something more flashy, more va-va-voom”. “I think we were all surprised to learn that she has taste beyond her years”, Kathleen says. “There are plenty of people we know who have traveled extensively and been exposed to so much but don’t absorb anything”, Fernandez says. Kendall is unique. “She absorbs everything and is certain about the things that speak to her”, he says.

“I like houses with personality”. “When I walked into this place, I was immediately drawn to the peaceful Spanish-y, farmhouse-y vibe”, Jenner says, perfectly encapsulating the hybridized, pan-Mediterranean architecture that abounds in L.A. “My life involves a lot of chaos and travel and high energy, so I wanted a home that feels serene, a place where I can simply zone out and relax”, she said.

Jenner made few structural changes to the existing architecture, instead converting two of the five bedrooms into glam and fitting rooms. The living area exemplifies the young model’s preference for warm, organic textures, earthy tones, and supremely comfy furnishings. A warm fireplace anchors one end of the area, and two long sofas, loaded with a variety of pillows in old textiles, provide plenty of space for visiting guests and family. “I’m not much of a party person. There aren’t many ragers here”, Jenner adds in her entertaining manner. “I like turning on music, lighting the fireplace and candles, and watching NBA games with my friends”.Cooking is also an important aspect of the Jenner hosting program. “Because of this house, I’ve spent more time in the kitchen”. I’m always in there trying to improve my culinary skills. “I’m a pretty good cook at this point”, she admits. “Kylie and I were extremely fortunate to have the guidance of our older sisters and a mother who has her s**t together”. They all provided me with sound ideas on how to best organize my kitchen and bathroom. “They also taught me that a house is always a work in progress”, she says, alluding to her Kardashian siblings Kim, Kourtney, and Khloé, as well as her powerful mother, Kris Jenner, the clan’s matriarch.A Tracey Emin neon sculpture competes with a pair of 18th-century Italian-painted door panels in her bedroom’s sitting area. “I grew up with those panels in several places where we resided. When my mother was clearing out one of her storage areas, I requested them”. “They transport me back to my childhood,” Jenner explains. Despite their nostalgia, the designers were not immediately convinced of the doors’ suitability. “We all exchanged ‘I don’t know’ looks because they didn’t seem to fit in.” But when the room was eventually finished, we were ecstatic. “It speaks to Kendall’s eye”, Tommy argues.
