Winston Duke is wearing pajamas festooned with popsicles and enjoying a splendid day at home.
The 32-year-old is moving slowly to a mellow rap mix. He is making quips with his mother, Coco, with whom he shares his recently purchased and renovated North Hollywood, Los Angeles, home. And he’s receiving 62 new texts from friends who want him to know that “Us,” Jordan Peele’s latest cerebral horror film in which he stars, is now the most popular movie in America.
Duke’s performance as M’Baku in Marvel’s “Black Panther” won him significant fan acclaim. This is Duke’s first starring role. And the actor is seizing the opportunity.
“This is the longest I’ve stayed in this house in a little over a month and a half,” Duke informs Alexa from his gray-blue and gold-accented man cave, which interior designer Seyie Putsure created just days earlier, inspired by a suave London club.
“After ‘Black Panther,’ my schedule got so ,” he says. “I purchased this home last August while filming ‘Us,’ but I was unable to move in. Then I immediately began production on ‘Avengers [Endgame]’ and ‘Wonderland’ [his forthcoming Netflix film]. I traveled between Santa Cruz, Atlanta, and Boston. I did not return home. My companions were required to move me out of my one-bedroom apartment. I have wonderful companions. Send a message to those pals.”
