Kerry ωαѕнιиgтσи’s oυтlooĸ for the impending holiday season is one of equilibrium. She tells BAZAAR.com, “I enjoy being casual yet glamorous.”
The actor and director has manifested this glimmering push and pull in a second luxurious jewelry collection for Aurate, which is now available. The Old Hollywood-inspired five-piece collection features architectural rings, huggies, and ear cuffs adorned with white topaz stones. These items are unadulterated embodiments of the main character’s vitality, fashioned from everyday-wearable materials.
Art-Deco allusions throughout the collection remind ωαѕнιиgтσи of the boundary-pushing performer Josephine Baker, an icon from bygone decades. ωαѕнιиgтσи explains, “She wasn’t тнrυѕт into the lead role in her career; through her performance and professionalism, she was the lead character in her life.” She was an agent for the European resistance. She was an extraordinary icon onstage and off.”
But inspiration comes from both the present and the past. ωαѕнιиgтσи explains the inspiration behind her festive line by stating, “All of the current fashion trends seem to be leaning toward a more festive and glitzy atmosphere.” “Therefore, we began to consider design elements from the Roaring Twenties, which was also a time when people were emerging from a difficult period and eager to party.”
Unbeknownst to her, ωαѕнιиgтσи’s wardrobe has also begun to reflect a desire to dress more formally once more. “I wasn’t consciously doing it, but when I dressed for the Emmys this year, I noticed a lot of sparkle, shine, and a bold lip,” she recalls.
Off the red carpet, jewelry has been ωαѕнιиgтσи’s primary source of opulence, reiterating the combination of casual and opulence. “[It’s] one of those consistent things where, in the middle of a pandeмιc, I wasn’t rocking my shoes and purses, but I was still wearing jewelry.”
Washington was preparing to begin a multi-week directing assignment for a forthcoming television program before she could attend holiday parties in her new line.
It is her last professional obligation before she can relax with her family and reflect on all that 2021 had to offer — a year in which ωαѕнιиgтσи attempted to gaze inward despite so many outward initiatives. “I guess it’s been a really challenging time, and I’m really grateful for how it’s allowed me to reflect more deeply and take stock, and commit to making time for the things that matter most,” she says.
