Dikembe Mutombo, a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, is selling his Atlanta home.
The listing appears just a few months after Mutombo began brain tumour treatment in Atlanta. The former center’s diagnosis was made public in October 2022, and his family requested “prayers and good wishes.” Since then, no updates on his health have been reported.
The enormous 11-bedroom, 10.5-bathroom mansion owned by Mutombo is for sale for $6.8 million. It offers more than 13,000 square feet of living space and is situated on a 2-acre lot.
Upon entry, you are greeted by soaring ceilings and a voluminous foyer with two staircases. The living room has a fireplace, and the library has beautiful built-in shelving for your literature. The kitchen features a very large island with professional-grade appliances and a double oven.
There are additional fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom. In addition to a walk-in closet and a shower for two, the master bedroom suite features a closet comparable to one found in a department store.
There are laundry facilities on both levels to accommodate the numerous bedrooms’ linens. There are also a salon, fitness centre, home theatre, sauna, gaming room and lift.
Outside, there is a garage with space for four vehicles and a guesthouse, as well as a pool, kitchen, basketball court, and playground.
During his 18 seasons in the NBA, the over 7-foot-tall Mutombo swatted away bullets and waggled his finger. He was the Defensive Player of the Year four times and an All-Star eight times.
He retired from the NBA in 2009 and subsequently became well-known for his humanitarian efforts, establishing a foundation in his name to enhance health and education for the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
