Acionna: Andy Waugh Unveils an Impressive 175m Concept Superyacht

Andy Waugh, a British designer, has unveiled a new 175-meter yacht concept dubbed Acionna.

Waugh predicts that Acionna could accommodate almost any desired feature, from a full-size squash court – a reference to the much-admired padel tennis court on Aviva – to a helicopter hangar or 20-meter indoor swimming pool.

A double-height main saloon with panoramic curved glass windows overlooking a U-shaped main aft deck pool with two cascading cascades is one of her eight decks. This bathing area descends to the swim platform and features a highly original layout with a ‘island’ of social spaces, including lounge and dining areas as well as two bars, surrounded by the pool and accessed via a tunnel aft and a bridge forward.

“Acionna is the ultimate megayacht for world cruising and challenges many preconceived notions about larger yachts,” says Waugh. “Her avant-garde styling is a visual feast from every angle, accentuated by her graceful proportions and sheer size.”

Instead of traditional battery-powered electric systems that require frequent recharging, the Acionna will be propelled by a hydrogen propulsion system, which will allow for long-distance travel. It also enables the yacht to be considered ‘zero-impact’ if hydrogen is produced using a renewable energy source. However, only a few marine hydrogen facilities are in the planning phase of development.

“The concept is for those who see themselves as trendsetters and game-changers, those who appreciate the pinnacle of luxury but also wish to make a positive impact,” Waugh explained.

Andy Waugh is renowned for his innovative sailboat designs, which in recent years have included the 45-meter Revolution and the 90-meter Nouveau.
