Last autumn was the first time he attempted to unload it. James Corden reduced the price of his Los Angeles property from $22 million to $18 million after receiving no offers for months. According to The Real Deal, the house was ultimately sold in May for $17.1 million in a cash transaction. LeeAnn Akouri-Shan, the discount-oriented purchaser, is the daughter of Hong Kong private equity magnate Weijian Shan.
This reduced sale price is still significantly higher than the $10 million that Corden paid for the home in 2017 from “Modern Family” creator Steven Levitan. However, it is uncertain whether he will actually make a significant profit, as he promptly renovated the property after purchasing it, which could have cost millions. Moreover, this transaction is affected by L.A.’s new mansion tax; in addition to the usual closing costs, taxes, and real estate agent commissions, Corden must pay nearly $1 million in additional taxes.
The former Corden estate, located in the ultra-affluent Brentwood Park neighborhood, is concealed from public view by gates and an enormously untamed hedge. The home, erected in the 1990s and described as “New England transitional” in its listing, features seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and more than 8,000 square feet of living space, all of which were decorated by Corden’s wife, interior designer Julia Corden.
Notable features include a living room with a fireplace, a kitchen with marble countertops, a 20-seat movie theater, a library, and a family room with French doors leading to the gardens. The master bedroom on the second floor features a private balcony, a lounge, and two bathrooms, at least one of which is equipped with hardwood floors and greenhouse-style shower and commode stations.
This half-acre property is renowned for its verdant, East Coast-style landscaping, as is Brentwood Park. There are tree-shaded front and back lawns, masonry patios with ample space for outdoor dining, an in-ground trampoline, and a swimming pool in the backyard. Additionally, there is an attached three-car garage and a Crestron home automation system that enables remote control and monitoring of the property’s lighting, sound system, and security cameras.
Although Akouri-Shan can likely afford any property she desires, it’s not surprising that she’s interested in this one in particular. In fact, the high-hedged property directly abuts the $20 million estate her elder brother Bo Shan purchased from “Million Dollar Listing” star Tracy Tutor in 2019.
As the “Late Late Show” has formally ended, Corden is returning to his native United Kingdom, where he has already begun a major new project. A few months ago, the 44-year-old man filed plans to demolish a dilapidated house on his 44-acre British country estate and replace it with a contemporary structure built to his exact specifications. This property is situated in verdant Oxfordshire, approximately 60 miles north of London.
