While filming his role as Navy fighter pilot Payback in the new “Top Gun: Maverick” film, actor Jay Ellis had to become accustomed to an F-18 cockpit. However, he is now settling into a very different type of compartment — a much larger one of the real estate variety.
Ellis, who also appeared on the HBO series “Insecure,” recently acquired an off-market American Foursquare-style residence in Hollywood’s historic Spaulding Square neighborhood. According to public records, the 40-year-old native of South Carolina paid $4.5 million for the home.
The gated residence was originally constructed in 1919 and has since been “renovated, remodeled, and restored to European Five Star Hotel perfection,” per the listing. It features three bedrooms and three bathrooms on two levels and 3,418 square feet.
The wood-paneled facade is centered around a striking columned portico that rests atop a front porch that runs the length of the house; once inside, the sleekly designed interiors feature an all-white color scheme accented by ebony walnut floors and copious built-ins, as well as French doors that provide seamless indoor-outdoor environments.
The main level features formal living and dining rooms, as well as a kitchen with an eat-in island and high-end stainless steel appliances that connects to a comfortable family room with a fireplace. In addition, there is a wallpapered pool room.
All three bedrooms are located upstairs, including the master suite, which features a walk-in closet, private terrace, and a luxurious bathroom with dual vanities, a Jacuzzi tub, and a glass-enclosed shower.
The picturesque grounds encompass nearly a quarter acre and feature a grassy, hedge-lined backyard with a long pool and Jacuzzi, a chic pool house, and an outdoor movie theater.
The house is located in a historic preservation overlay zone and falls under the Mills Act, which allows householders to receive property tax reductions in exchange for restoring and preserving historic structures.
