Triton’s Customizable Submarine Concept by Espen Øino: Your Aquatic Dreams Come True
The Triton submarine concept Project Hercules was unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show. This one-of-a-kind design, the result of a collaboration between Triton Submarines, Dark Ocean Design, and superyacht designer Espen ino, seeks to “change the manner in which owners and their guests experience and engage with their underwater environment.”
The new submarine has a patent-pending design by Dark Ocean Design and can dive to depths of 200 meters with up to nine passengers. Four large thrusters enable Project Hercules to travel at rates of up to eight knots, which is twice that of conventional private submersibles, and its front spoiler houses a selfie camera.
A completely configurable interior can be arranged to accommodate a variety of social settings. Passengers can use the submarine for casino gaming, exquisite dining, cocktails, weddings, and even spa treatments. Additionally, the exterior can be redesigned to reflect the mothership. Espen ino explains, “With Project Hercules, we sought to create a ‘Inner Space Craft’, a tranquil and exclusive environment where owners and guests could enjoy intimate conversations, contemplative tranquility, and unforgettable private experiences.”
“Because of my claustrophobia, I was initially hesitant to even enter a submersible, but it only took one demonstration dive with Triton for me to fall in love with the experience that submersibles can provide. They genuinely add a whole new dimension to the yachting experience, which is why we were so eager to continue our partnership with Triton,” says ino.
In addition to redesigning existing Triton models, the team is presently developing a number of new model concepts and undertakings. John Ramsay, co-founder of Dark Ocean Design, elaborates: “For the past fifteen years, Dark Ocean has collaborated with Triton Submarines to produce some of the most competent submersibles on the planet. With Project Hercules, Espen ino’s team contributed a refreshingly original perspective on the vessel’s configuration. This insight, coupled with their skill in designing opulent interiors, has resulted in a submersible that is truly unique.”
“Espen and his team’s portfolio represents the pinnacle of yacht design, and we are thrilled by their eagerness to collaborate. To be able to offer our clients submersibles that are uniquely tailored on the exterior and interior is an exciting new direction and opportunity for all parties involved, including yacht owners, says Patrick Lahey, President of Triton Submarines.
Now that the concept and engineering phases of Project Hercules are complete, testing, final specifications, and pricing remain. During the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, additional details on Project Hercules will be revealed.
