Ioana Valentina Corcodel, a Romanian designer, has been shortlisted for this year’s BOAT International Young Designer of the Year Award, in association with Oceanco, after submitting designs for a 65-meter eco-conscious concept named Ophelia.
The concept encompasses five decks and is characterized by solar panels that cover its exterior to generate renewable energy and improve efficiency. The exterior is comprised of metallic materials with a futuristic appearance and traditional teak decking.
A kinetic solar-sensitive shutter system on the side windows can be programmed to open and close in response to solar radiation to create a comfortable interior environment and reduce the need for air conditioning. Additionally, the interior features a dancefloor area designed with angular, energy-generating panels that are activated by the visitors’ footsteps.
Corcodel characterized the interior design as appropriate for a long-term proprietor who “needs a comfortable space where he feels at home.” Therefore, the owner’s cabin is a split-level residence with an open atrium, a private library, and a remote office. The interior spaces are decorated with “warm tones of wood” and an assortment of plants and vegetation to promote a sense of well-being. A wellness area and a “atrium-style garden” are also available on board.
The renderings also depict a cocktail bar, al fresco dining areas, a swimming platform, and a flybridge equipped with a sunbathing daybed and a forward hot spring.
Corcodel, a Milan-based marine design company, has previously collaborated with Alberto Simeone and Jalmara Oy.
